What can I say about this beautiful and emotional single parent book written by Author Rebecca Barber? Only that she broke my heart, made me laugh, and singed my eyeballs time and again all through this book. Even though this was almost a slow burn, the hot scenes between Zach and Lily were intense, sexy and fun.Zach Higgins, our hot and sexy tattooed firefighter, and I have to take a moment to *le sigh* here, was everything I could’ve dreamed of as the perfect book boyfriend. Everyone loves a man who loves a baby and he absolutely adored Ava from the moment her picked her up from the ‘Safe Haven’ box around the back of the fire station. Their connection was instant, and as soon as Zach removed his shirt to wrap Ava safely into it, she stopped crying and was soothed. Hell’s teeth!! I’d be instantly soothed too, and I was hooked on the gorgeous hero that Ms Barber created.Single foster carer, Lily was out of her depth with baby Ava, even as she longed to be a mother and genuinely adored the abandoned new-born. Ava, already smitten with Zach, refused to be settled in her new home, so when Lily reluctantly reached out to Zach for help to soothe Ava, he was glad to be there! Lily was unused to the attention, especially from a man as hot and attentive as Zach, so it was easier for her to attribute his dedication to baby Ava than admit to the possibility that he might also be into her, wanting to take her out on a date.Now let’s talk secondary characters. Grady Malone features and along with Zach’s other fire-fighting peers, gave our hero some serious ribbing over his endearment of little Ava. They also had his back in acknowledging that Lily was ‘his’ even as she tried to deny it. Zach’s mum featured big time and she was completely awesome. Unconditionally loving and supportive, she became one of Lily’s biggest fans, owning little Ava as a granddaughter. And finally, Zach’s actress sister Maddy. Last time I saw her in Ms Barber’s book PLAYED, part of her sports romance series, she was causing trouble and acting like the spoilt actress she was. Here, she was much more palatable, and I hope we get her story soon.I also have to mention Ms Barbers nod in the book to her love of all things chocolate – Lily’s chocolate coloured cat named Malteaser. Those are my favourite, so of course I was going to notice 😆.This was one amazing book that slotted comfortably into the world of K.
